Nomination for Digital Music Awards in the Live Show Category
Society 1 have received a nomination for their performance at the 2005 Download Festival in Derbyshire, UK. Society 1 has some heavy competition in this category however, including London Live 8 Concert 2005, the Natasha Bedingfield Mobicast from the ICA, the Philharmonia Orchestra live concert April 2005, and the Stereophonics Live From London gig. We have our fingers crossed and hope Society 1 can pull an amazing upset victory!
If some of you recall, this show was previously reported on as featuring the shocking live antics of the Lord Nexus Matt Zane including his now famous suspension show. At this show in particular Zane upped the ante by only using 4 hooks instead ot the customary 6 hooks to lift
himself up 10 feet in the air. Zane performed the entire 30 minute set while suspended to the awe of much of the crowd.
Society 1's latest release "The Sound That Ends Creation" along with their previous Earache albums are available in stores everywhere now and through the Earache webstore from the links below.

Society 1 Complete marathon touring for "The Sound that ends Creation"
Society 1 has completed its third tour in support of its latest Earache album, "The Sound That Ends Creation". The band's latest month-long US jaunt with Scum Of The Earth (ex-Rob Zombie) and Brand New Sin directly followed two other tours: a US tour with Pitbull Daycare, and a European tour with Paradise Lost which culminated with Society 1's record-breaking "Suspension Show" appearance at the Download Festival in the UK.
Society 1 apologizes to any fans hoping to catch them on the Scum Of The Earth tour between now and July 21; due to the mental and physical exhaustion of the last several months of worldwide touring, Society 1 has chosen to end its tour a week early. In particular, Society 1 frontman Matt "The Lord" Zane cites the strain of the "Suspension Show" at the Download Festival as a cause for the early finish:

"With the first Suspension Show I did, I had a month to prepare myself physically and mentally before the event, and a month afterward to recuperate, which is the recommended procedure. With the Suspension Show at Download, I went straight into it with no preparation, having already been on the road 3 months, then afterward we hopped on a plane and went straight into our US tour. At Download I was suspended in the air by four hooks inserted into my flesh for the duration of our entire set, in front of tens of thousands of people. It's a physically and mentally taxing situation and with our hectic touring schedule allowing no time for recovery, it's finally catching up with me. Society 1 has travelled to 40 states and 17 countries this year so far and we promise we'll be on the road again soon."

SOCIETY 1 SHOCK DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL WITH SUSPENSION SHOW
Society 1 took to the stage at the Download Festival in Derbyshire, UK, on Sunday morning a little before midday and proceeded to shock the assembled thousands by completing the promised suspension show that had been the subject of so much hype in the lead up to the event.

Vocalist Matt Zane upped the ante by using only 4 hooks inserted in his back to hoist himself approx 10 feet above the stage (dispensing with the customary 6 hooks in response to rumours that the suspension was a mere 'gimmick'). Initial plans to only perform part of the set suspended were soon altered as Zane became more and more animated through each number, and eventually the frontman performed for an entire 30 mins held in place only by the hooks and safe hands of Core.

Raging through a setlist that included the likes 'It Isn't Me', 'No Father' and 'Hate', the band enjoyed a rapturous response from the enthusiastic Download crowd. Close to collapse at the end of the arduous performance, Zane and the band still managed to leap into the front of the crowd to express their thanks for the support.

With promises of a swift return to the UK, the band certainly left their mark on Download 2005.

Preston Nash Fills Drum Throne For US Tour
Former Society 1 drummer Preston Nash is returning to the drum throne for Society 1's upcoming US tour, to fill the slot left vacant by Berzerk Kirk. Nash stepped in at extremely short notice to help out Society 1 who were left at the last minute without a drummer for the tour.
Nash, who knows Society 1's set inside-out having recorded on the band's new album, "The Sound That Ends Creation", was the natural choice to replace Kirk.
Berzerk Kirk, the brother of ex-Static-X guitarist Tripp Eisen, left Society 1 to focus on an urgent personal situation. "We wish Kirk all the best in dealing with this difficult time. We now must move forward without him," says Society 1 frontman Matt "The Lord" Zane. Society 1's US tour kicks off Tonight in Phoenix, AZ.

New Drummer Unveiled
Society 1 have chosen LA drummer Berzerk Kirk (ex-The Ambulance) to take over the drum throne left vacant by Preston Nash, the ex-Primer 55/Dope skins-basher who exited Society 1 after recording "The Sound That Ends Creation".  Berzerk Kirk will make his live debut with Society 1 in February as Society 1 hits the road with Bile and Pitbull Daycare.
Kirk's own history is as extreme as that of his new band.  A former medical student with a degree in biochemistry, Kirk has put the cadavers on hold and parlayed all his scientific ambition into his current occupation as rock drummer.  He quips:
"I am a closet sociopath with sporadic antisocial tendencies whose ambition to play drums has superceded any content within the, as of yet unspoken, Hippocratic Oath.  If I need or want to do physical or psychological harm, I can and will, since I have not officially been proscribed from doing so."
Kirk explains his place in Society 1 thusly:
“Society 1 feeds my own provocative philosophical musings.  The gluttonous insatiabilities of the five human senses allow me to examine my own vile tendencies to seek out the true nature of what the world has deemed Evil.  I contend that Evil and Freewill do not exist.  They are mere descriptions of the flow of biology and physics of our universe.  The music, diversity, and intensity of this foursome will enable the deeper probing of these concepts.  Society 1 provides the baptism by fire -- the worthless ideas will become ash and the true concepts will be strengthened.  And the FANS of Society 1 -- to have the opportunity to invasively examine the cerebral workings that are their thoughts and ideas will fortify my continuing research.  I look forward to entering my laboratory.”

"It Isn't Me" Video Nears Completion
Society 1 have finished shooting their fourth video, a nerve-rattling clip for the song, "It Isn't Me". An adrenalized slab of Society 1's trademark industrial-metal shock-rock stomp, "It Isn't Me" is the lead-off track on the band's upcoming album, "The Sound That Ends Creation".
With director Danny Roew at the helm, shooting took place December 31-January 2 in the band's hometown of LA. Roew has directed commercials for Diesel, Starbucks, HBO, and Bud Light, and has directed videos for the likes of Coolio.

According to Society 1 frontman Matt "The Lord" Zane, the "It Isn't Me" video explores such themes as "the realization and acting out of personal taboos" and "the sinister secrets of the dark side of human consciousness". Zane had this to say about the experience of filmin
the "It Isn't Me" video:
"This was almost more grueling than the suspension video. Danny [Roew] put us through some seriously strenuous situations that bordered on real experience, not acting. We are far from actors so he believed the only way to get realistic reactions was for the situations to be real. It's an interesting concept that seems to follow what this band is all about. I have worked with other directors and I have to say Danny's directing style and the ways he manipulated the camera to achieve certain effects at times seemed groundbreaking. I believe this video will be the first to really capture what we are on a instinctual level."

SOCIETY 1 ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM DETAILS
Earache's most prolific roadhogs Society 1 have completed the mix and mastering of their new album 'The Sound That Ends Creation' and have issued details of the full tracklisting that make the final album.

01. It Isn't Me
02. Let me Live
03. 6 Months

Society 1 Enter the Studio to Record 2nd Earache Album
Society 1 begin recording their second, as-yet-untitled Earache album on June 13th at NRG Studios in LA.

Having worked with Society 1 on their Earache debut, "Exit Through Fear", engineer/producer Wade Norton (Static-X, Orgy) will be returning to engineer and co-produce the new album. After laying down the basic instrumental tracks at NRG, Society 1 plan to hit several other LA-area studios to record vocals and overdubs.

Society 1 frontman Matt "The Lord" Zane had this to say about the follow-up to "Exit Through Fear":

"I love the fact that we are recording yet another Society 1 album that will ultimately lead to confusion, disgust and pure anger. I feel as if I am a thorn dipped in poison that has somehow found its way into the skin of the dumbfounded masses."

Matt Zane Escapes Felony Charge in Denver
Society 1 frontman Matt "The Lord" Zane narrowly escaped a felony charge in Denver last week, following an incident at a Society 1/Orgy show at a local nightclub.
The incident began during Society 1's set when Zane stopped the show to confront a heckler who had been shouting relentless insults at the band. Zane offered the heckler, a woman later revealed to be 17 years of age, the chance to approach the stage and speak her mind about the band into the microphone. The heckler accepted Zane's offer but found herself humiliated in front of the entire room when, instead of allowing her to speak, Zane quickly removed the microphone and forced her face into his crotch.

After the show, Zane was apprehended by police officers who informed him the heckler had pressed sexual assault charges against him - a felony, considering her age. Luckily, the police had been on the premises since the start of the show and had witnessed the entire incident; they confided in Zane that they felt his conduct was acceptable within the context of the show but that they had to take the accusation seriously.

While the police waited for the heckler to calm down, Zane made his exit.

It is uncertain why the police were on the premises from the start of the show but it was most likely a response to Society 1's brush with the law in Milwaukee. Society 1's reputation is spreading like wildfire and
it is no wonder police departments across the country are taking action.

Meanwhile, back in Milwaukee, the city has declared it will be fining someone for Zane's recent onstage antics there, though who will pay the price is as yet undetermined.

Society 1: European Tour Wrap-Up
Got back last weekend from the Society 1 European tour with Godhead, which was killer. We did 6 countries and 12 shows in 15 days, hitting the UK, Holland, Denmark, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. The UK and Holland shows including Amsterdam were the best by far, although Switzerland and Munich were also great. S1 did tons of press, and got a 4 out of 5 K review in Kerrang! magazine for our show in Nottingham UK. The Godhead guys are the greatest -- much thanks to them for a wicked tour -- and again, much thanks to Pearl Drums, Sabian Cymbals, and Vic Firth Drumsticks for getting me the gear I needed to make the tour happen.

Society 1 Complete Successful Europen Tour
Well, the hedonistic circus that is SOCIETY 1 has finally left town and anyone who spent an evening in the band's presence won't forget the experience for some time. Courting controversy right across Europe from tales of smashed up equipment to the bands... ahem... extra curricular activities backstage, SOCIETY 1's first trip to this side of the Atlantic
can be considered a resounding success. Drummer Preston Nash sums it up like this:
"The first Society 1 tour of Europe was awesome, especially the UK and Holland concerts...anyone who didn't catch our shows missed the rebirth of heavy rock and roll the way it should be, a non-stop visual and musical explosion...ask Kerrang! who gave us 4K's for our first night of the tour in Nottingham, and that was without props or production, just 4 guys who got off a plane, stepped on a stage and simply killed the unsuspecting UK crowd...it'll be scary to see what will happen when Society 1 comes back for a bigger tour..."

Suspension Show Packs LA's Key Club, Makes History
On Thursday, March 11, at LA's Key Club, Society 1 made history. In front of a tightly-packed house, Matt "The Lord" Zane became the first rock singer in history to perform live while "suspended" - pierced through the back and hoisted up in the air, supported only by the hooks in his flesh. An uncommonly disciplined and daring feat that has never been accomplished before now, The Lord's suspension is the latest chapter in the unfolding saga of the man recently described in the LA Weekly as an embodiment of "Morrisonesque shamanics and Satanic self-determination".
LA's Key Club was filled beyond capacity with over 700 people in attendance to witness the historic spectacle. The entire venue was abuzz with anticipation, wonder, and doubt as The Lord took center stage (bearing a giant wooden cross!) and prepared for the show. With ambient Middle Eastern melodies pumping through the PA, The Lord was pierced with six hooks and hoisted off the ground. Amidst wild cheering, a curtain rose and Society 1 launched into "Fornicate", off their Earache debut, "Exit Through Fear", as The Lord rose higher and
higher in the air. The Lord remained suspended for the duration of three full songs, reaching nearly thirty feet off the stage, fronting the band in his inimitable style all the while. On the last of the three songs, "Everyone Dies (Rock Stars Don't Count)", The Lord was joined by Orgy's Jay Gordon on vocals.

Following the three suspended songs, The Lord returned to the stage for a full set with Society 1, featuring the debut of new Society 1 bassist, Dirt.

In a night full of extreme spectacles - from porn stars enacting live S&M rituals to a performance by "America's Most Extreme Performance Artist", CoRE - Matt "The Lord" Zane's suspended set with Society 1 stole the show, and made history in the process.

Society 1's March 11 show at LA's Key Club marked their final show in support of their Earache debut, "Exit Through Fear". The entire show was filmed for a DVD, to be released on Earache later this year.
Society 1 will now enter the studio to record their second Earache album.

BASSIST'S FINAL SHOW SET FOR MARCH 11 AT KEY CLUB
Society 1 bassist Aleister has announced that Society 1's much-hyped "suspension show" at LA's Key Club on March 11 will be his final show with the band.
Matt "The Lord" Zane had this to say:
"Let me just say that the band will continue. It's unfortunate because I had high hopes for Aleister but after 8 months of touring he realized he wasn't cut out for this lifestyle. This isn't for everybody. It's not easy, especially in this band. I can't blame anybody for wanting to pursue other interests that are not so far outside mundane society. I think of our situation as being in constant opposition to so many things. The pressures can tear you down to the point of forcing you back into the masses. They need to eradicate the loose anomalies because they destroy the reality that everyone collectively believes in. I will always remain separate. We will send Alesiter back into the world of the acceptable behaviors after March 11th with the best of wishes for his new life."

SOCIETY 1 & CULT OF LUNA DOMINATE NEW PS2/XBOX GAME
Songs from Society 1 and Cult Of Luna are featured on the hottest new action game for PlayStation 2 and XBox... "Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel". Society 1's "Hate" and "All You Want", and Cult Of Luna's "Circle" are featured prominently in the game, along with songs by Slipknot, Meshuggah, Killswitch Engage, and more.

"Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel" is described as a "gritty and darkly humorous 3rd person action adventure" where players fight "ghouls, mutants, and other radioactive nightmares" in an effort to "maintain peace in the grim post-nuclear world of Fallout." Here's what Gene Semel, audio director for "Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel", had to say about the music in the game:

"I don't think anyone's taken this direction with a game as of yet in terms of the music... It's always going to be the ambient stuff that's present in the game, something that moves you through the game, but in terms of the boss fights and continuity of this game, it's basically metal. And since it's an action-oriented game, this is a decision we made early on. And, like I said, we've got some really big names that are going to be on this game. It fits really well...

What I've noticed in other games is that if you take metal music, and then you try to throw it in rock, pop, and hip-hop, then you've got this mishmash which may work for certain games, which is fine. But for this game, there's a story there, so you have to stay true to the story from the beginning of the game to the very end. I spent a lot of time and a lot of hard work picking out the tracks that fit very closely to one another. It's not the same song over and over again, but it has the same feel. And it's not just the feel of the beats, it's the feel of the rhythms and some of the melodies in the tracks. I think it's come together pretty well... With action, you need adrenaline."
