Chicago Metal outift have been ripping it up across the US over the last couple of weeks with legendary metalheads Sabbat.
They recently played at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA on September 20th, 2005 to support their Wicked World debut "The Spell Of Retribution" . Return to the pit was gracious enough to capture some pics of them in the process of bringing the darkest of metal to the masses. The Chasm vinyl release confirmed
Lovers of The Chasm and of the almighty vinyl will be pleased to know that in keeping with band tradition, there will be a vinyl version of the upcoming album 'The Spell of Retribution'.
Frontman Daniel Corchado has created some unique artwork to mark the occassion, this art is exclusive to the vinyl and is different to the already seen CD version. This release will be limited to 500 copies on black vinyl, and available from the webstore and selected vinyl outlets from November 8.

The Chasm unveil advance MP3 from 'The Spell of Retribution'
Here's the first snippet from the new opus from The Chasm - a track entitled 'Fortress' that is one of the most direct tracks they've ever penned, but still blends the unique South American influence and obsession with the myths and arcane spirits that surround the band. There are nine other pummelling tracks on the upcoming album 'The Spell of Retribution' due in November.

THE CHASM CONFIRM NEW ALBUM DETAILS
Deathcult masters THE CHASM have finally completed work on their new album, the band's first for Wicked World, going under the title of 'The Spell of Retribution'.
Comprising 10 tracks with a running time of over 66 minutes, 'The Spell of Retribution' represents The Chasm's most adventurous and ambitious project to date, and firmly sets them apart from the rest of the current Death Metal scene by incorporating purposely lengthy songs dealing with intricate concepts close to the heart of frontman Daniel Corchado. Recorded at Soto Sound Studios in Illinois and then mixed by Corchado at Lux Inframundis, the album's recording was not without its problems, including at one point a studio fire that set the schedule back and led to the album taking longer than anticipated to complete. The Chasm complete recording
Daniel from The Chasm sent through this message from the studio shortly after the completion of the recording for the upcoming album 'The Spell of Retribution'

The final report......

Finally, after several delays, all the tracks have been completed,and the last 2 recording sessions took place on Sunday (vocals, leads) and Monday (acoustics). After all these layers had been finished we really can say that this is one very unique, dark and destructive piece, easily the deadliest in our career, some never before used elements were incorporated on some songs, and the true believers will be surprised - in a very positive way.

We already started to do some tests with mixing, warming up with the 2 covers, the results are very satisfactory, but there's still some tweaking to do, we are going back to start the heavy work of the real mixes of the originals. Mp3's to be posted soon.

THE CHASM RECORDING HALTED BY FIRE
Recording of the new album from arcane epic Death Metaller's The Chasm was put on hold after a fire at Soto Sound Studios, Illinois, where the band are currently holed up creating the new opus.
Frontman Daniel Corchado sent us this message from The Chasm clan;

"Well, everything was going so well, until now, when 'the curse' made a
small appearance......slight problems have arisen and the main one is that
the building where the Soto Sound compound is located suffered a fire caused by an electric malfunction. No-one is hurt but it will take a few days to
get everything back to normal, with inspectors, insurance people and the etc running around fixing the problem. We have been informed that we'll be back on track this week, but for now........"

Undetered by such setbacks the band have instead lined up the first hometown show, on June 11. The gig will take place at Cafe Lura in Chicago with the legendary Demonic Horde MORTEM, all the way from Peru, on their first and probably only US appearance ever.

Exclusive report from the studio
The Chasm have just entered Soto Sound Studios in Illinois to record their brand new album, the first for Wicked World. Despite all the hectic comings and goings associated with the early stages of a recording, frontman Daniel Corchado found time to send us
this quick update:
"So it has begun! Last monday 19th we arrived at Soto Sound around 4pm, only The Chasm Core plus our videographer/photographer/brother Carlos from Ancient Gods, so we started to download and set up everything,and first thing we noticed once we got inside the studio is that Jerry did a new isolation room especially for drums, after the first takes we realized that it was a crucial part in this recording.

We started recording around 6.30 after having a short EQ session for drums, we didn't wanted to waste a lot of time on this, we knew that a natural, warm, live sound was the goal, so Antonio started playing some stuff and Jerry started to balance everything on-the-go, since we are trying to avoid triggers as much as possible (we are only using them on kick drums).

We requested a microphone for each an every piece of the drumset, after a few more minutes it became very clear that Jerry Soto is master of his domain,and a very professional engineer, this came as a great relief, since it is gonna make things much easier for us! We warmed up doing one of the 2 covers we are doing for this session,to make sure everything was there, powerful and cutting, specially snare and toms, Antonio got a new deeper wood snare and a new set of pedals specially for this recording, so there was some concern regarding the use of these new items....

After we finished the covers we all went to the mix room to check it out, the result? Simply fuckin' brilliant, even if it's too early to confirm a total victory on this matter,I gotta say we haven't heard Antonio like this in a long time, the drums are sounding very big and natural, most importantly, and they sound personal due to his style, and sound somehow different to what it's been doing in the past...half the record has been done, drum-wise speaking, and the rest should be finished today.
Now for the guitars, we are also aiming to get a more traditional, not-so-digital sound, a classic tube amp warm sound captured through a single vaccum tube microphone should do the trick, but we'll have to wait and see, Julio will start laying down his parts tonight, but overall we know that this process has been much less stressful than in past times, even though the execution/playing of the songs is the hardest we have ever done, the atmosphere of the studio and the positive/ professional/ laid back persona of Mr. Jerry Soto has and will be a very important matter.

The Chasm confirm studio dates
Architects of Death The Chasm have confirmed their recording plans for the bands debut Wicked World album. After fine-tuning their distinctive brand of epic melancholia during an intensive writing period, the band will enter Soto Sound Studios, Palatine, Illinois, fully prepared on April 19 to lay down all the material for the new record.

With the tentative working title of 'The Spell of Retribution', the album will contain 10 songs including 'Manifest My Intervention', 'Warlord' and 'Conqueror'.

New album update...
Daniel Corchado sent us this message from the bowels of the rehearsal room, where writing is progressing at a fast pace as the band look to complete the material that will eventually become the band's Wicked World debut.

 "We've been busy as hell here writing the new album, isolated and practising hard, and I mean really hard....A very intense process, with some bumps on the road, but with some very good and strong results too. We already have nine songs finished,the majority are between the 5-6 min. duration, so it's going to be another long record again, but fuck it, this is the way of the Deathcult, we procreate from the heart and soul and don't really think or waste time thinking how long the album is gonna be..... Now we just need one more song and that's it, it will be complete. There will be some surprises and twists, with, of course, our traditional style present and menacing all over the new chapters,I won't say too much, because words are simply that, words, and we prefer our music to do the talking, so far we are very satisfied with the new death chants, and we can assure to the believers and followers of our crusade that they won't be disappointed at all, and I mean it!
No titles are ready yet, they are still in the works and giving final touches to lyrics/concepts, they are still hidden and crawling inside my mind, but is a difficult task to put them on paper...The artwork is around 80% done, we are probably gonna post some teasers early February, which is the chosen month to start production and recording of the 7th chapter, but this date can be easily changed, so stay tuned for more news and updates...

Latest update from the depths
The Chasm frontman Daniel Corchado dropped us a few lines from Chicago where the band are hard at work on material that will eventually form part of their debut Wicked World release next year
"Our most sincere appreciation to all those who attended the Aztec Underground Legions shows, both in Wi. and Chicago, the few who were part of this real Metal Gathering were fortunate enough to witness an amazing display of different styles of Metal, all forged with Aztec Blood, we are proud of having shared the stage with such furious and killer acts, our brothers in INFINITUM OBSCURE, ANCIENT GODS and OBEISANCE are definitely very strong forces to be reckoned in what is left of the Real and passionate Death/Black Metal Scene and we shall continue our devastating crusade along with this entites; Hail to them and Total respect to all those who showed their support!
We had difficulties at the Chicago show due to some very unprofessional and inept attitude from the owner of Cafe Lura, we were forced to change the venue the very last minute and it somehow affected the number of atendees to the show, but the Real believers made it to the new location, and the show went very well, better than expected. We we want to show our respect and appreciation to Mr. George Velaetis (Darkness Eternal) for his excellent bass work at the last two Live Attacks, his dedication and energy are something we are proud of, thanx Brother!"
"Ok, so, that is all in the past, and now we are back again on track to the procreation of the New Conjurations of Total Death, the process has been a hard one, sometimes complicated and stressful, but we know we are doing our best, our thing, and we are creating something very unique and special, our soul and heart are on every dark note of it and it's showing, pure raw and unalterated THE CHASM personality and energy at it's fullest.....so far we think that 40% of the album is musically completed, there is still a lot to do and accomplish, but there is no rush, the album will be recorded when we feel we are 101% satisfied with the musical results.....so no more shows will be booked for the rest of the year, and there won't be any real activity for us, besides just practicing and working on the new attack."

The infamous pure 'Metal of Death' cult signs new deal...

Having appeared in both Metal Maniacs and Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles (that, alone, is more ink than some signed bands get!), this is a band whose reputation precedes it. Of course - like most reputations - opinion must be based at least in some measure of fact, and in The Chasm's case, my opinion (that this record slays) echoes the ultra-devoted praise of many of my peers. I've never been one of those who thinks that swearing is for the weak or non-creative, so holy fuckin' shit! This is good. Someone, go sign these guys.
