|RIVAL SONS are a raucous, maximum-blues-infused, hard rock band from Los Angeles, California, who explode with the rhythm and roughness of some of the greatest rock acts of all time.
Hailed as "The unlikely saviours of American Rock"(Classic Rock) Lead Vocalist Jay Buchanan, guitarist Scott Holiday, bassist Robin Everhart, and drummer Mike Miley were brought together by a love of music, but also, in their own words, they "want to give the people the rock and roll they deserve by keeping it honest, visceral, and dangerous".
"By God, it's been too long since a band in mainstream hard rock was this unafraid to wail." - CBS News
From the first moment the band got together there has been a special artistic chemistry, landing them opening slots with legends like AC/DC and ALICE COOPER, several USO shows with KID ROCK, and a tv performance from The Indianapolis 500.
|The Huffington Post dubbed RIVAL SONS as "one of the top 5 bands to watch" at CMJ Music Marathon in NYC at the end of 2010 and after that performance the band signed a deal with Earache Records. "There was just the right amount of audacity and bending of the rules for us to dig the idea of being on a [traditionally] death metal label." says guitarist, Scott Holiday.
February 2011 saw Rival Sons make their European debut at The Barfly, London as part of the "HMV Next big thing". The show was a sell out and went down a storm with punters and publications "These Californian classic rockers have balls." - NME; people became aware that RIVAL SONS were going places...
As it happened the place was the 1974 studio back in LA to record the new album "Pressure & Time". "Pressure & Time" was recorded in just 20 days ensuring a rawness for both the listener and the band. The band committed themselves to creating an experience that closely matched the attitude and excitement of one of their live performances. "Pressure & Time" RIVAL SONS' full length EARACHE debut, produced by Dave Cobb with the cover art by Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Muse) was released in the UK & Europe in June 2011 and in the USA in July 2011 to stunning reviews and critical acclaim worldwide:
"Dazzling sense of dynamics" - The Metro
"A dose of groove, soul, swagger and old-time rock'n'roll" - Classic Rock
"Rival Sons are classic rock incarnate" - The Daily Telegraph
"...a powerful soulful affair full of strut and swagger. Big organs, stomping riffs and good times pervade." - Q
"Buchanan might just be hard rock's best Plant substitute since David Coverdale" - Uncut
"there's a soulfulness and strut which puts them into quite a different league." - Uncut
|The album charted in the UK reaching number 1 in the Amazon best sellers, 19 in the Billboard charts, and equally charting in Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland & the USA. The first single 'Pressure and Time' for which the band recorded a music video directed by Greg Ephraim http://www.youtube.com/user/RivalSonsVEVO was play-listed on stations worldwide and staying on the A-list at Planet Rock radio for nearly 2 months.
Never shy of a touring schedule RIVAL SONS were always out on the road in the states, including playing at Gene Simmons-hosted 'Aces & Angels' event for the Superbowl, Canadian Music week, SXSW, Hangout music festival, as well as playing clubs coast to coast and many home town in Los Angeles.
During the summer of 2011 supporting the release of "Pressure & Time" the band played a string of prestigious festivals Europe wide gaining fans for their electric live performances at Sonisphere, Rock Werchter, Main Square, T in the Park, Putte Parken, Bospop before joining Judas Priest as main support for their UK Epitaph tour. The Judas Priest tour culminated at London's High Voltage festival where the band amazingly played twice, first the main stage (which was filmed for Sky Arts HD) then an impromptu headlining slot on the Metal Hammer stage.
|RIVAL SONS have been nominated for 2 awards at this year's prestigious "Classic Rock awards" - 'Best new band' and 'Album of the year'. The band are also involved in several ad campaigns including Jeremiah Weed and 'Torture' on the soundtrack to the new 'Real Steel' film. RIVAL SONS are currently touring the USA supporting Evanescence, and will then head back to Europe to play full headline tour. They release a second single 'All over the road' with a video directed by Greg Ephraim from the acclaimed album "Pressure & Time" this November.
Groove, soul, swagger and danger are the ethos by which the RIVAL SONS live and breath. They claim to have sworn an oath to keep the process and their performance to nothing less than honest. Their music sums up a time when ROCK made more than a "viral buzz". RIVAL SONS harken back to when the thrill of rock and roll truly made a difference....And that time has been resurrected.
