EPHEL DUATH BEGIN WORK ON NEW ALBUM 'THROUGH MY DOG'S EYES'
Italian experimental jazz metallers Ephel Duath have begun work on a new album due to be released in 2008. The album, entitled 'Through My Dog's Eyes' is set to be a concept album in which a dog depicts his vision of various aspects of life, from casual things like nightmares or walks to deeper issues such as accepting death and the rules of nature that are unavoidable. The band are currently gathered together, writing and arranging the songs, and guitarist Davide had this to say about the album:
'The preproduction is very promising, and we'll abuse it to grasp and magnify the potential of each track: we are sure that the album will not only please the fans but that it will also bring us new ones'.
Talking about the concept behind 'Through My Dog's Eyes', Davide has also stated that:
'Lyrics-wise, it is a first person narrative in the shape of various short novels. We are in no way attempting to prove any sort of superiority or draw a parallel between man and animal. All we intend to do is capture the essence of how we think dogs see life, hence the use of the first person, and all of this being speculation means that the texts deal with sheer fantasy. We'll push people to think about this concept as an ode to one of the animals with the most humanity in the eyes'.
'Through My Dog's Eyes' will follow the release of the upcoming remix album entitled 'Pain Remixes The Known' which is set to be released on July 23rd. Ephel Duath "Hole IV" from "Pain Remixes The Known" on myspace
Ephel Duath have posted an mp3 of "Hole IV" from the upcoming album "Pain Remixes The Known" on their myspace page. www.myspace.com/ephelduath
The "Pain remixes the known" album is a remix album of "Pain necessary to know" which came out in 2006.
Guitarist Davide explains
" The way we designed the previous album, Pain Necessary to Know, left room for a lot of new interpretations, or remixes as is the case here. The initial idea came from Earache's Dan Tobin, and it seduced us straight away.
We were on tour at the time and therefore had enough spare time on the road to discuss about all this and we all arrived to the conclusion that slowing down the BPM of PNTK to a dubbish rythm would be a slight risk that had the potential to become a thrilling experience."
He continues
" Two years ago ambient-dub guru Eraldo Bernocchi contacted us just to congratulate us for our work and ended up inviting us to dinner. Eraldo is a guitar player, producer and electronic musician. He's got more than 20 years of musical career and 75 full lenght albums spanning many different audio and visual projects with artists and musicians from all over the world. Some of his partners and collaborators are Bill Laswell, Mick Harris, Toshinori Kondo, Thomas Fehlmann, DJ Disk and Harold Budd. He scored various soundtracks, just to mention a few "Nirvana" and "Denti" of the Oscar Prize winner Gabriele Salvatores. Among his remixes he counts Almamegretta, Prince Paul/Jungle Brothers, WordSound, Robert Miles, AFA, The Maldoror Project and many others ranging from dub to metal and drum and bass. A brilliant artist basically. So Lucio and I went to Tuscany where he lives and a lot of ideas regarding possible collaboration came up that night. After a few months Eraldo asked us to compose a song with him for the 20th anniversary of his band Sigillum S. The song came out real Pink Floydish, with spoken words as well as the typical Ephel Duath appeal added to the ambiant guitar of Eraldo. Some time went by and our friendship developed, and at some point Dan Tobin's idea for the remix album came up and we immediately thought of Eraldo.
The whole album, Pain Remixes the Known, has been composed by Eraldo in his home studio called The Place with the help of collaborator and singer Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari."

"An Ephel Duath fan knows that the band is shapeless. We think that PRTK is an extremely important experiment that can help the band widen the scope of its fanbase and can surprise whoever is used to our sound. Just listen to it and see for yourself."

Ephel Duath's drummer talks sheet music on youtube and Ephel Duath report on the tour
Italian Jazz-metallers Ephel Duath are now back home in Italy after their European tour.
"We've just returned home after seventeen hours travelling from Bruxelles to Padua." Davide Ephel Duath's guitarist reports "The first part of the Ephel Duath's Imploding Euro Tour is finished and it's time to reflect.
We have been lucky with nine UK dates and extremely good support band, the math-corers Tangaroa. The tour crew has became a sort of enlarged family, and we have to thanks these five crazy Tangaroa guys for some of the funniest moments of the whole tour. Our favourite shows were at London Underworld, the Bournemouth's Gander and supporting Red Sparowes @ Southampton's Nexus.
Before leaving the Uk we have did a last minute show at the University of Luton with our label mates Biomechanical. That was one hell of a crazy crowd! Yeh!
Then we were off to France and Belgium playing in two very different venues. The Batofar in Paris - an old red boat in the river Seine, and Magasen 4 in Brussels a sort of small musical factory in the centre of the city.
Probably the best two shows of the whole tour for the band's performance, but going to Paris was the strangest and funniest show of the Ephel Duath's Imploding tour.
We want to thank all the people who came out to see us on the tour, we feel a growing support for Ephel Duath and this pushes us to do the best at every occasion.
Up the Ephels!
Thanks,
Lucio, Fabio, Sergio and Davide."

Ephel Duath's new drummer Sergio talks about playing live from Sheet music on a short YouTube clip. Now Ephel Duath are back home they are ready to continue work on their next album.

‘PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW’ released on November 7th
EPHEL DUATH frontman DAVIDE TISO has been in touch to give you an insight into where the Italian outfit’s new album ‘PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW’ is coming from just prior to it’s release on Elitist / EARACHE on November 7thOctober 31st "Pain Necessary to Know represent a fundamental step in our career.
It's a sort of monolith album that in less of 39 minutes offers to the listener all the Ephel Duath faces: there are mirrors, masks, irony and some tears. Jazz and metal too.”
“We have tried to destroy the song structure, offering to the riffs the freedom of contemporary music. Guitars work like an orchestral director, in the meantime bass and drums build and destroy oblique architechtures.
Voice appears and hides itself like a wolf. Pain Necessary to Know will stand in our discography like a sort of lighthouse that will offer us the right direction to the next albums.
With ‘The Painter's Palette’ (Ephel Duath’s previous release) we have offered you a kind present, now we show you a big stone. Climb it with us, arrived to the top it will be funny to jump together."
PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW
1 New Disorder
2 Vector, third movement
3 Pleonasm
4 Few stars, no refrain and a cigarette (instrumental)
5 Crystalline Whirl
6 I K illed Rebecca
7 Vector
8 Vector, second movement (instrumental)
9 Imploding
Treading the fine line between the sane, jazz-metal confusionists EPHEL DUATH release their latest affront to common decency with the mind melting paradigm that is ‘Pain Necessary To know’ on November 7th
The band will introduce new live drummer Andrea Rabuini at four Italian shows in November.

'PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW'...
Italian experimentalists EPHAL DUATH have recently completed work on the highly anticipated follow up to The Painter's Palette at Studio 73 in Ravenna, Italy. Guitarist DAVDE TISO has been in touch to let you know more about PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW
I'm so happy to announce you that our new album PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW is ready. I have the master in my hand and the artwork on my PC! After two years to compose and five months to record, mix and master, you can easily understand my so excite state of mind. The sound is fat and circular but at the same time so cutting. It's brilliant but dirty. There's desert and smelling water. Probably there's Zappa too!
We've also finalized the artwork. Dirty water with medusas in the background. Medusas are perfect to symbolise the title of the album. You can't say you know a medusa if you have not felt around your body a sign of its touch. You can't say you have the slightest idea of what is the better life for you if you don't have around your thoughts the signs of pain. In my opinion pain is necessary to know.

Only through a lot of different pains I've come to understand what is better for me...To play music!
Here's a preview of the cover. Let me know what you think about it! We've also changed some of the running order:

PAIN NECESSARY TO KNOW
1 New Disorder
2 Vector, third movement
3 Pleonasm
4 Few stars, no refrain and a cigarette (instrumental)
5 Crystalline Whirl
6 I killed Rebecca
7 Vector
8 Vector, second movement (instrumental)
9 Imploding
Buy your copy and control yourself. Later my friends, in the next days we'll try to choose from the album a sort of single to offer you as an MP3.

Ready to record new album
Italian experimentalists, Ephel Duath, are getting ready to record their follow up to their worldwide acclaimed album ‘The Painter’s Palette’.
The band will go into Studio 73 in Ravenna, Italy on 16th February, to start recording their new album entitled ‘Pain Necessary To Know’, with their favoured producer, Paso who worked previously on ‘Rephormula’ and ‘The Painter’s Palette’.

Mainmain Davide Tiso states “ After a year and half of hard work the drums, bass and guitar of the 9 new songs that will give life to ‘Pain Necessary to Know’ are finally ready. We’re planning on continuing to work on the vocals after the recording of the song's skeleton. The vocal's will have the same importance as that of an additional instrument, and will appear only in the songs where there is the perfect mood for them. ‘Pain Necessary To know’ has been born with an instrumental slant”. He continues “Our live show line up will record the album (drum, bass, guitar, screams). There won’t be any melodical vocals this time as "Pain Necessary To Know" doesn’t need it and there will also be  different guest artists contributing on the brass instruments, and piano”. When asked what could  be expected from the new material Davide replied “an intelligent use of pain in music!”
‘Pain Necessary To Know’ is slated for a late Spring 2005 release

EPHEL DUATH: RANKS IN RENOWNED METAL AUTHOR'S TOP TEN OF '03
Ephel Duath's hair-raising jazz-metal opus 'The Painter's Palette' ranked in the Top Ten on metal author Ian Christe's best-of-2003 list, along with albums from such bands as Voivod and Enslaved. Says Christe:
"Italy's Ephel Duath is a hyperreal fantasy for information-fiend metal fans with broad tastes and short attention spans... Eclectic metal has been on the rise in the past few years, but Ephel Duath are modern masters rising far above the fray."
Christe, a longtime music journalist, is the author of 'Sound Of The Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal', a comprehensive guide to metal, published by publishing giant Harper Collins. 'Sound Of The Beast' itself ranked in numerous best-of lists in 2003, including that of LA Weekly's Greg Burk, who wrote: "['Sound Of The Beast' is] the first book to chart the vector of not just metal's origins, but the myriad mutations through which it continues to infect the planet. Your children will not be spared."
